310 Doctors selected for admission 2015.  ( Jan 2, 2015)
Principal, PGMI, Prof. Anjum Habib Vohra has said that 310 doctors have been selected for admission 2015 for specialized medical diploma and degree courses at PGMI.  Dengue training has been made compulsory for new admission holders which would continue till January, 31. Those doctors who will not join within 15 days after commencement of classes would lose their admissions, the principal said.
Prof. Vohra said that PGMI has been serving since 41 years and it is the only medical institute in Punjab which is being attended by national as well as international students for specialized medical courses. He further said that PGMI doctors have rendered their services in medical and educational fields both in Pakistan and abroad.
He said that it is due to impressive reputation of PGMI that record 2200 doctors have applied for admission this year and only those candidates have been entertained who meet the merit. He told that 250 admission holders belong to private sector while remaining 60 are working in government hospitals.

LAHORE: Paramedics and other employees of Lahore General Hospital observed a complete strike at the institute on Friday to protest suspension of its medical superintendent.
The day-long protest by the paramedics brought the healthcare to the patients and the official work to almost standstill.
The outpatient department (OPD) remained closed and various surgeries managed in the elective list were postponed. The administrative issues from cleanliness of the institute to the file work also remained suspended.
Addressing the protest rally outside the OPD, paramedics` representatives claimed the MS had nothing to do with the death of the patient. They said the government took the decision in haste as the administrative cadre doctors` job restricted to the management level.
They announced that they would continue their agitation till the reinstatement of the MS and other admin doctors.
As the OPD was locked by the protestors, the patients returned without treatment.
Many of them were referred to the emergency department where the turnover of the patients increased manifold putting the doctors in an immense trouble.
MS Dr Imtiaz Pervaiz was suspended a couple of days ago along with three otherdoctors following the death of a patient. An inquiry committee had held them guilty declaring that the patient was discharged without complete treatment which led to his death. The chief minister had constituted a committee on the complaint of patient`s relatives.

BUSES: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif accorded approval on Friday for four new buses for the students of Amiruddin Medical College, Lahore.

Affiliated with
Lahore General Hospital, the college was in a dire need of transport facilities for medical students, according to a handout.

It said the Postgraduate Medical Institute management had submitted a request to the chief minister through the health department for the provision of transport.

Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute and Lahore General Hospital Prof. Anjum Habib Vohra has said that a picture of Asma Kanwal, a valiant student nurse who sacrificed her life while fighting against dengue, would be printed on first page of LGH nursing school prospectus permanently. This decision is aimed to tribute Asma kanwal for her great contribution towards defeating dengue. In a statement, prof. Anjum Habib Vohra said that the picture of Asma Kanwal would not only remind students newly joining nursing field of great services of Amsa Kanwal but also set their goal in this area of serving ailing humanity selflessly. He further said that struggle against dengue under the dynamic leadership of Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif is wonderful and impressive chapter of our medical history and those who sacrificed their lives in this campaign are our real heroes and benefactors. So the administration of General Hospital has decided to make photograph of martyred Asma Kanwal a permanent feature of Nursing School LGH’s admission prospectus. He said that a class room of nursing school has already been attributed to Asma Kanwal while a big picture of the martyr has also been portrayed in the hostel. He said that the parents of Asma Kanwal would be provided with all medical treatment and facilities free of cost for the rest of their life.
